palo de caña y café
An Object of Ritual
Palo de Caña y Café is a rain stick/percussion instrument made of copper and ceramic using, a variety of metalsmithing techniques, and inspired by the plants of the sugar cane and coffee. Ceramic bits–shaped like sugar granules, and coffee beans–live within the hollow metal enclosures, so that when the object is manipulated the clash between the materials create an evocative sound. The object was conceived as part of a series to honor Alexia's home country of Venezuela where these crops typically are grown.
